Enid Gilchrist pattern books

 

 

Collected and admired, now on sale at Ebay for someone else to love. All are worn, frayed, yellowed, some have tears, some mending with tape and pen/pencil markings, however all are fully useable and readable.

Vintage patterns

No dates on any of these. The pattern pieces have perforations and notches - no printed lines. All the paper has age discolouration/spotting.

Shawl Collar Jacket

I made version A.

Fabric: medium weight double knit remnant with a floral pattern

I constructed this jacket as per the instructions except for shortening the sleeves and stitching a 2cm seam line over the top of the shoulders and tapering it to the 1.5cm seam about 5cm either side. This made the shoulders fit better since I did not use shoulder pads.

Strangely the fabric pattern does not look stripey in real life.

Butterick 4285 - pleat-front skirt

I want a pleated skirt, practical but with some "swoosh".

Butterick 4285 (undated) with its three length variations of A-line skirts with front pleats, side front slant pockets, back zipper closing and self belt loops was my next project.

I made skirt B - just below knee length using a rayon blend, I think (it was an unmarked remnant). The fabric has tigers hiding behind rocks and foilage.

Wore the skirt out to dinner same evening that I finished hemming it - ate Yellow Curry.

I love the side slant pockets and the length of the skirt.
